I am running Windows 98SE, and have Office 97 Professional Edition. In the past I have created my web page on Word 97 with no problem. Due to a computer problem I have re-installed Office 97 and now when I try to access my previously saved web page, or save a newly created web page I get a message:
"The selected text converter is an old version which does not work with the current version of word. Reinstall converter and try again."

I have re-installed Office 97 to no avail. I researched the error on the Microsoft support pages and it says the error is due to a conflict with Front Page Express (which I do not have) or a network server installation of Office 97 (which I did not do).

I'm really stumped, I tried downloading and installing Service Release 1, Service Release 2, Converter Pack, Service Release 2 Value Pack. I can't find anything else relating to Office 97.

Please help!

From the almost wild guess department,,,,

Looking through my system, with win98 and Office 97 Pro, the only HTML converter file seems to be " HTML32.cnv ", ver = 98100400 on the file version tab of properties sheet, or ver. 8 in the properties strings. In back ups, the earliest date for this file is Feb.26, 2001. ALL other files with that install date relate to IE upgrades.
MAYBE ?? it relates to Frontpage Express, which I have, BUT it's installed location is " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TEXTCONV ", so it could be for use with multiple, other MS apps.
SO ??? The possibilities are , Reinstall or repair IE 5.01 or later, to try to get the updated converter. Install Frontpage express, or leave a reply that you don't have that version and/or file, and I'll send a copy ( 374 kb ), OR, run a web search to find a download for same.
HTH :)

Well, it looks like the WAG Dept. came through with flying colors! I checked my version of html32.cnv and it was an earlier version for some reason. I managed to get the updated version and I'm off and running. Thanks so much! This board is amazing, I learn so much even from reading other posts!
