Word 2000 won't start

I haven't made any recent hardware/software changes, and for some reason, Microsoft Word 2000 SR1 will not start. I get the splash screen, and it simply hangs. The only way out of it is to CTRL+ALT+DEL twice to restart (sometimes that doesn't even work, and I have to use the reset btn on the case).
My copy of MS Word came bundled with Works Suite. I've tried repairing Word, as well as reinstalling, but nothing seems to work.

It could be that your normal.dot is corrupted. Try this - start, search for files and folders normal.dot.
If it finds more than one, delete them all. The next time you open Word, it will create a new normal.dot and should work fine.

I've had this happen twice on two separate machines in my office. First time was so long ago, I forgot the fix...but knew where to come to get help! :)
I was ready to delete word altogether, it's so frustrating, but just renaming "normal.dot" to "normal.old" and rebooting the machine FIXED it immediately. Thanx, Suzi
