Comment:

I have video files that I burned onto a DVD from my desktop, but they won't play on my laptop.

Both computers are Dell, but my desktop is XP, and laptop is 98.

When I put the DVD into my laptop and try to open, it makes weird noises and asks to format the disk. Why won't the videos play? Please help. Big presentation on the line.

Thanks.

Just to make sure, do you have a DVD player in the laptop and not just a regular CDrom or CD burner?

I'm not sure if it's the same with DVDs but with regular cd-r's you can leave the recording session open and add stuff later. Often doing that causes problems when attempting to read the cd-r in another player. If that doesn't appear to be the problem (and you're sure the laptop DVD is working) try altering the recording speed and the blank disk brand.

Keep in mind that not all DVD's are the same!!

1st If you have a DVD-R/-RW It will not read DVD's Burned with DVD+/+RW.

2nd If you have a DVD+R/+RW and try to read DVD-R/_RW media it will not read it.

3rd If you have a DVD-R/-RW /+R/+RW DVD then you will beable to read both.
The last DVD is considered Dual Format/Dual Layer DVD's.

There may also be a conflict between Fat-32 and NTFS.

I wouldn't touch you, with a 39 and 1/2 Ft. Poll!

... hard to credit anything like that - CDs & DVDs don't employ either (and the connection to Windows 98 has turned out to be an imaginary one)

If I know the answer I'll tell you the answer, and if I don't, I'll just respond, cleverly
