I have 2 computers on a LAN. Both are running WIN98(SR2). Both are in the same room.
I never had a problem UNTIL the HD crashed on the host computer. I got another HD and reinstalled everything.
Before I set up the LAN, I noticed that my computer WILL NOT print to LPT1 now. I have installed, re-installed, and re-re-installed WIN98(SR2).
When I connected the LAN, the remote computer WILL print to the host computer. It just won't print on the computer it is set up on. I keep getting a message that say's "....unknown system error."
I bought a new printer cable and checked the IRQ's (no problem there).
What's going on here? Any help appreciated.
TIA

What kind of printer are we talking about?
Do you have the correct drivers installed on the local machine?

The original printer was a HP 990CSE. It had NO problems printing to the main computer (the one it's hooked up to). It ran fine until the crash.
I got an Epson 880 and installed it. Same thing happened.
All drivers are the newest ones.
Remember, I had NO print problems up until the HD crash. None whatsoever.
Thanks.

I think that I would unhook the printer and reboot. Then let W9X remove the drivers (it should ask). Then reboot after re-hooking it up and re-install the drivers. Man, I don't know if this'll help at all.

Check your parallel port captures. If you have your lpt1 captured to another network resource, it will attempt to redirect to that resource. Goto your lpt1 properties and ensure that it says 'local port', not pointing to another resource on your network.
