I had mobo and cpu given to me on the weekend. I stuck power supply on it, along with the other basics (grapics card, mouse, keyboard, HDD (from another system containing windows 98). Problem is that the cmos is password protected. It's an Asus cuv4x-m and the bios is an Award v1.0a. Any ideas as to how I might reset or crack the password? Thanks, John

There should be a ClrCMOS (Clear CMOS) jumper on the MBoard. Simply move the jumper to the other position mometarily while the computer is UNPLUGGED. This will reset the BIOS to defaults. You will need to enter the BIOS screens at the first startup and adjust the date, time, boot order, onboard hardware, etc. Tap the Delete key continously when booting up to enter the BIOS.

Hi, I couldn't find the clear cmos jumper so I removed the battery, and replaced it, unplugged. Now I don't get any picture. John

Are you sure it's seated right and polarity correct? Clean it with a lint free cloth and try again.

If there's an onboard video connector on that board, remove the graphics card you installed and connect the monitor to the onboard graphics connector. The cmos (if cleared) has probably reverted to onboard as the default video.

I'd ask the person who gave you the MOBO.
