When I boot up my IBM 380z laptop running Win 98 I have started to get an error box labled 'WJView Error' with the following text: "Couldn't execute Main : The system cannot find the file specified."

I did a search and found a program called WJView in the Windows folder which seems to have something to do with Java. Is there someway to correct this problem or to keep this message from appearing? I haven't found anything which is obviously not working right at this time.

Hi Skip, hello everyone,

Wjview lets you view window-based Java applications.

Check in msconfig startup for wjview or an application there that might be trying to launch which is no longer installed.

Also check this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Best Regards,
Mesich

Do as mesich suggested and locate the program which is probably unwanted spyware that was installed with apps such as Morpheus. You can remove Morpeus but the spyware is leftbehind. You may have to reintall the app and then uninstall it again. Then seek out each offending piece o crap and uninstall them (such as websavings ebates). When they are uninstalled then run a spyware remover and you are done. I had the same problem with the wjview error and this resolved it.

Hi,

I have the same error, and the error is from a spyware program called "coupons and offers" except when I try to uninstall it, it gives me the error to bgin with. So I can't find a way to uninstall it, because it gives me the error when I try to.

First off, do not delete WJView. It is necessary for certain visual applications. If you have already removed it, try and restore it from your recycle bin.

The WJVIEW Error is caused by Adware, WebSavingsFromEbates on my machine at least. You'll be able to find out what piece of adware is triggering the error when you view the startup on MSConfig. You'll most likely notice some program that is starting up that you know is adware or not supposed to be running. It will also specify that is loads WJView at startup.

My removal method posted is for WebSavingsFromEbates but if you have a different adware program triggering, follow the same steps but with the different name.

When you are dealing with MSConfig, it always asks you to reboot after you edit it. Don't restart your computer until you have finished dealing with the adware. Then reboot to see if the WJView error doesn't come up.

First, run MSConfig, go to the startup tab, and make sure that WebSavingsFromEbates is checked to startup at boot.
Then run REGEdit, and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Run/ and delete the WebSavingsFromEbates registry Value.
Then go back to MSConfig and check to see if WebSavingsFromEbates is gone from the startup list.
Lastly, go to Program Files and delete the folder WebSavingsFromEbates.

Also, since you edited the startup on MSConfig, next time you reboot a message will say that you have edited the MSConfig and blah blah. Just tell it to not alert you of the message every time you reboot.
