Granny needs help again. I installed a Linksys wireless G on my desktop computer. The min requirement is stated on the box as 128, yet this will not work, notice comes up there is not enough memory to run most anything with this plugged in. I take it out and everything runs again. The wireless router and another wireless G card are installed on my laptop and work. What can I do? Will installing more memory help? Thanks

Minimum requirements (for about anything) are usually highly optimistic. My guess is you'll need to up the RAM.
Kinda usual tale, just enough to run the program itself but nothing else.
See what others think though....

You shouldn't need memory to run the router just the driver for the wireless card. The setup of the router just needs the web browser.

Maybe you should post the 'exact' error message that you are getting. It sounds like you might be misinterpreting the message.

The message said not enough memory to run this program and other programs show the same message. I cant even open "my computer". I closed all programs I could, and still wouldnt run. The router software is not installed on this computer, it is on a laptop and that is working fine. Thanks for the reply

I've seen that 'Not enough memory' message when the problem was really running out of hard drive space.
Because of virtual memory, it's hard to understand how you can not have enough memory. Unless of course, virtual memory is disabled.

I have 8.62 GB free. Virtual memory is not disabled. I did notice that 8 MB are dedicated to video which drops it to 120 MB, could that be the problem?
Summary: I am trying to install a Linksys wireless g notebook adapter. My system is not completing the software install. (it does recongnize that the card is in the slot). I get the "double beep" at start up ...
Summary: Yeah, I know 128 is low for ram, lol, surprisingly the computer works quite well. Regardless, I will be buying another 128 very soon, because I was thinking of maybe upgrading to windows 2000, or XP -...
