Ever since I have installed a second CD-ROM (a plextor rewriter), my windows 98 takes almost 4 minutes to start. It does not give any errors. Does anybody know what windows is doing and how I can fix this?

Is it a SCSI drive or IDE connection? If SCSI, check that is correctly terminated, also try another SCSI id?

My Plextor rewriter is indeed a SCSI CD Rom drive. Would it still work if there is no terminator? (I was assuming it would fail in that case) Anyway, I will check the terminator tonight. Thanks for the info.

You didn't say whether the rewriter was a scsi or ide. You could try running msconfig and click on the startup tab to see what is getting loaded while your system is coming up. You have the option to turn off unneccessary stuff like fastfind, loadwc, and other stuff that would slow your bootup. I know from experience that loadwc and fastfind actually slow your system down considerably. See if that helps any.
