windows98 can not run DOS game

I am running windows 98 and have down loaded all update patches. I am tring to play ef2000 flight sim, a dos game, it loads ion dos ok and i can play it for a while butt for no reason and at random the game stops and go to dos promt with protection error??? Has any one any ideas or where i can get help?. Thanks

I downloaded mame and when i tried to run the games the games dont work the dos prompt said error you have a corrupt or a file is missing what i have to do to play those games. And when i restart in dos mode the computer need a password and i dont know the password. If you help me to solve the problem i am going to thanks to you a lot.
