I have a few dos games I'd like to be able to play but I'm having trouble...when i shell out to dos it tells me i dont have enough memory...when i create an icon in windows for the game and edit the memory area it will start the game. The problem is the picture is all messed up and unviewable. Is there a problem with my video card being too good for this dos game?? thanks for any input! Rich

I have Win 98 on a Pentium 380 processor. I have had some problems with dos games. I would recommend only running dos games on a computer running true dos only. I am glad I kept my old pentium 90 which I run my dos games on with dos version 6.2 with no problems. These games were made for true dos, not the dos that comes with 95 & 98. Dos will give you out of memory errors also but all you have to do is make a boot disk, load your sound drivers, reboot, and your ready to go. I remember trying to run one of my dos games in win98, I had restarted in the dos mode & everthing and when I kept trying to start the game it kept telling me this is a Windows 95 Workstation. Run your games in true dos operating system and you will have few problems, if any.

Some of the older games (eg Privateer 2) require a full DOS mode, not a Windows session.

After switching on comp and passing BIOS boot sequenze display Winstart option screen by pressing F8. Choose 'DOS promp'. Start the game. If it don't start because low memory, type 'MEM'. Look at the basic memory below 640k, if it's less 500-600 (depends on the game, look at reference card) u'll have to edit autoxec and config.sys. If u wanna play it nevertheless and don't know the necessary changes send me a mail.
