Windows won't detect second hard drive ?

I have two hard drives on my system. I took the slave out and replaced it with another hard drive, (jumper set for slave). The bios detected both drives, but when Windows (95) starts, My Computer is only listing one drive (C) and the CD-ROM (D). Previously, I had drives C and D and the CD was E, as expected. Under the hardware list in Control Panel, System, the two drives are shown but no drive letter has been assigned to the second hard drive. How can I fix this ?

Did you put a Dos partition in the second drive? Does your autodetect recognize the correct cylinder# and measure the size correctly? Some systems have to use a disk manager to recognize oversize hard disks. I believe about 8gigs is one limit.
