Hi Trish... If you have one, try disabling your firewall. Also make sure cookies are enabled in IE.

Hi Trish,

I shant give up. :-)

I must run for about an hour, here is a couple of things to try meanwhile, unless someone else comes along.

Run the Repair for Internet Explorer

Go to the Control Panel.

Select Add/Remove Programs.

Highlight Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Click on Add/Remove.

You should see an option to Repair Internet Explorer.

Select that and click OK.

Post back with you version of Internet Explorer.

If you are not sure, open IE and select Help. Select About Internet Explorer.

Shall be back shortly.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Hi Trish,

Try running SFC and see if it finds anything.

Start and Run type SFC and click OK.

Select Scan for Altered Files and click Start.

Make a note of any it finds but do not replace them. Instead select Ignore and post the results back here.

SFC gets several of them wrong.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Don't mean to take up all your time..I know you have to run out...I ran SFC there were no problems..I have run it in the past and restored corrupted files..I was told to do this my a "Computer friend" I have done this several times..could this be why I get all the dll errors? Maybe I should restore the settings in the default data file??? I probably should not have listened to him...no rush...get back to me when you can.

Hi all.
Trish, If you are using a download manager then this will prevent you from getting updates from MS.
(just a thought)

Hi Trish. I used to get this, too. I was using DAP, a download accelerator. That's probably why. I don't use it any more, and Update works fine, now. (There wasn't any acceleration, either.) HTH

Some Compaq's come with Zone Alarm bundled as the firewall. See if you can find Zone Alarm in your PC. If it's running, you will probably have a Red and Yellow icon with the letters ZA in the systray.

Try updating your MSXML3.DLL file by installing the update available from this Knowledge Base article. Then you could try DCOM98 as well as your Script Package. How is your Java? Any joy?

Also wanted to let everyone know...I have been receiving e-mails for weeks from
"Network Message Delivery Serice" with the subject reading "Undelivered Message"

also from: "MS Network" and "Microsoft Corporation Network Security Department" the subject in these is also an attachement reading Critical Update...I never downloaded the attachment in these two..but did open and read the one that says "Undelivered Message" could I have gotten a bug or worm from these..since it is blocking the Microsoft page????

Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong there, but it was close. e-mails from Microsoft are a known virus delivery technique. As long as you didn't open the attachment, you should be OK. One question... The "Undelivered message" e-mail. Was it about an e-mail you know you sent? If it was for a message you didn't send, then you may have a worm sending e-mails to everyone in your address book.

Just for insurance, I suggest you get a full system virus scan at one of the following sites:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

The scan is called housecall and it's free.

If you prefer, there is also one availble on the Symantec site here:

http://security.symantec.com/ssc/home.asp?j=1&langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=20&pkj=AWKKVVVMMSPCKNPOFZK

At one time or another, I have ran both of them on the same machine and one has found stuff the other missed. If you only run one, I recommend housecall.

If it should turn out you do, infact, have a virus, I would seriously question the AV setup you are currently using.

If you should have need, Symantec has some great virus removal tools.

Good Luck - Ray

Thanks...Trish

Hello everyone,

Just to add to what Ray has mentioned.

Microsoft has a policy of never sending patches or upgrade to customers through email. They do send out emails to subscribers when a new security bulletin is released.

Their emails never contain an attatchment, only a link to their site for the patch or update. The bulletin is also already listed on their site prior to sending out any notification to subscribers.

These emails contain the W32.Swen.A@mm virus. Along with claiming to be a patch from Microsoft the virus it can also impersonate mail delivery failure notices.

It will execute itself when you open or even preview the message using Outlook or Outlook Express unless you have this patch from Microsoft.

I've been receiving a couple of dozen of these daily and simply delete them. It is not a result of something you did wrong. Most likely you are in someone's address book that is infected.

Best Regards,
Mesich

Trish, yes on MSXML Parser 3.0 service pack. Just download it anywhere on your system and double click it to install - it will copy the files it needs to where they are needed by itself, so no worries there. Same for other executables I linked too.

ok...Mesich, Melee and Ray...we are getting soooo close...Ray, when I dowload the parser service pack...there are three files...each asking me for the location to place the extracted file...I have no idea!!!...Mesich..when I try to download the patch for the Swen virus..I get constant MSXML3 errors...so I guess I have to fix that first...what is the location to place that file?? By the way...you guys are great!!!
