Hi, when i go to download and install my Windows updates, it doesn't download the updates. how can i download these updates.

How far do you get on the Windows Update page, when does the problem occur, and is there any sort of error message?
There are a few possible ideas but it depends upon exactly what is happening and when.
Derek

It gets to the part with the web Dialog- Preparing to download. there is no error message. i have and ADSL Connection and it does download fast but there is no progress in the download at all.

I have found similar problems to come back another day and download without any problems. I assume MS is just having their server tied up or too busy.
Are you using IE5x or higher versus Netscape or AOL?

Looks like this is one of those "gone quiet" posts describing symptoms that nobody who has passed by has experienced (nor have I).
All I can therefore offer are long shots:
Firstly make sure you have the original version of spoolss.dll (for SE I think it should be dated 23 April 99 V4.10.1998). The only reason I mention this is because folks who have overwritten this file have had difficulties, but these are usually at an earlier stage on the update page than you describe.
There were problems with Windows Update shortly after MS revamped the page. This was usually cleared by accepting a download to V4 of the Windows Update handling software.
Have you got your IE security set to max? If so it may work if you lower it to medium with normal default settings. Alternatively you could go to Tools/Internet Options/Security/Custom Level and make sure you are not set for "disable" under Downloads/File download.
Lastly I suppose you could try IE repair (from Control Panel/Add-Remove double click the IE entry and see if the repair option is available).
That's about it, sorry I couldn't come up with anything more definite.

I have the same problem and so far haven't found a solution (see below).
I have, however, found a work-around.
The Automatic Updates client will download - I have set it to notify me when updates are ready to install.
That seems to work.
So far I have tried removing c:\WUTemp dir, de-registering and deleting C:\WINNT\System32\IUCTL.dll, upgrading IE version, IE security settings, ensure downloads are allowed in IE, removing all files in Windows Update dir (except v4\*.xml), apply sp3, re-apply sp3, numerous re-boots, numerous manually downloaded hotfixes ...
I have McAffee anti-virus installed bu I know it is not that as my colleagues have the same version installed and they work fine.
I am usually connected via a NAT to the Internet (but other working machines are conencted via the same NAt with no problems). I have tried enabling proxy / disabling proxy, direct Internet connection all to no avail.
So if anyone else out there has seen this and fixed it, I'd love to know how.
I also had this problem on another PC and only fixed it by compeletely re-installing Win2K!

Hi, I had the same problem. winXP. Explorer6
281679 didn't work for me, but this did:
regsvr32 msscript.ocx
regsvr32 dispex.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 scrrun.dllGot it from:
