I removed a couple of programs through the Add/Delete mehtod in the control panel. However every time I boot the computor -- I get error messages stating that the comp. is unable to locate the file -- I know I need to remove the startup commands that instruct the machine to initialize these files but I can't remember how to get to them - except that I access through typing a command in the run line. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Sorry, I can`t tell you where to go in the registry to find these orphan files. Actually, I mean I won`t. :-) Too many times in the past, I`ve done just that and mistakes have been made causing much greater problems than the original...but I can help you.
Go to this site and check out EasyCleaner. It`s a great free program which searches invalid registry entries, duplicates and unnecessary files. Shows also info about your space usage. It was given the highest rating by Nonags.

You have short-cuts [to the programmes you removed] in the start-up folder.
Go >Settings>TaskBar & Start Menu
Select the tab 'Start Menu Programs'
Select remove.
Find the ' + StartUp' group and remove the names of the programmes you removed.
If they are not there, then you must have created custom shortcuts that the uninstall did not remove [i.e. on the desktop]. I f so delete them.

Nick's suggestion is very probable. And in the case that the problem persists, I would suggest you to run sysedit to edit win.ini; Locate the line starting with run or load and try to locate the file in question. I personnaly will track the name of the file (s) and locate them with the find command by inserting the names as containing text.

Good Luck and I am positive you already found the answer!
