Hi. I searched this forum for the answers, found somebody with the exact same problem...but didn't see any responses.
Everytime I start my pc, I get the same error message:(11001), on API 'ASync Lookup'.
I ran adaware, got rid of all spyware, but the message still comes up.
Would somebody please help a lady in distress?
Thanks for your time and effort.
Happy New Year!!

I found this at another forum site with this as the answer to the same question as yours. I hope it helps.
a WinSock error 11001 likely means that the Winsock file is either missing
>or corrupted. Try replacing Wsock32.dll as detailed in MS article
>Q298436 found at:
>Q298/4/36.ASP
>under the section titled "Resolution".

I got this error message after I removed an exe that was detected as being infested by a backdoor trojan. In the registry there probably is a reference to the backdoor trojan but as I removed the exe (i renamed it) it can not be activiated during start up of the system. I am using win 98. Probaly removing the reference in the registry will solve this problem. I am just too lazy to try to find it.

Check this out: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win98/n1010277297

It is a Trojan causing the problem. You could also use:

I had exactly the same problem. And I got it from downloading stuff off kazaa too. After running several virus checks I found it was a file called sysbat.exe in the windows directory causing the problem. Anyhow...You have to delete this file from DOS as it is always in use by windows (hold F8 when booting, chose dos prompt option, and type "DEL C:\windows\sysbat.exe"). This has fixed the problem with me, and everything still works fine - at least for now.
Get back to me and tell me if it works for you too.

Windows Socket Errors - WinME - Pentium 4 - IE5 -
I've had a problem for several days with windows socket errors 10049-API connect & 11001-API ASnyc lookup - I find my Norton Antivirus won't run. The scandisk won't run properly either. As per a suggestion on one board, I ran the PC through the 'housecall' virus scan and found five 'palukka' trojans, all either received or activated on the same date/time. They were: FPSCAN.EXE, WINSERV.EXE, MODULATE.EXE, SYSBAT.EXE, and SYSLOAD.EXE, as well as a 'JS.EXCEPTION.EXPLOIT' in my temp internet files under content.IE5\6P2LYNIL\track[2].JSE and a 'VBS.IESTART.A'. I'm unsure how long these latter viruses have been active. I have had trouble lately with lockups and slow loading, with occasional disappearance/closing of a window I'm on. I've been able to delete everything except the WINSERV.EXE, which the PC claims can't be deleted because it's being used by Windows. Another suggestion I found somewhere stated that a virus that is active in Windows would have to be deleted in DOS. I researched WINSERV.EXE and found conflicting things: I found someone selling a shareware program that keeps track of keystrokes and screen content in one case. Now I wonder if WINSERV.EXE is something that belongs in Windows and shouldn't be deleted, or just a virus, or ???. I found no reference to it in my PC before the date that the five trojans first appeared, so I'm thinking that perhaps it's a keystroke logging program that has been infected with the trojan before being sent out to cause problems. I saw directions suggesting going into the regedit to delete it, but it isn't there. I'm unsure why.

Question 1: Is it safe to delete this EXE? Is it indeed something needed by windows to run, or just something that invaded my system?
Question 2: Can this be deactivated by renaming the exe to another type of file, as I read of someone doing? Or is the better way of deleting it in safe mode or DOS? I'm not too sharp on the inner workings and don't want to make matters worse.

Thanks for any help someone can offer...

Den6N

We scanned the computer with socket error messages and then scanned it McAffee anti virus and we found out that it has a trojan backdoor virus named Winohme.exe which it was not detected by Norton Anti virus and we immediately deleted the file but still we are receiving socket error messages. How can we remove the socket error message --> WinUpd32 Windows socket error: (10065), on API 'connect'. Please we really need help badly.

OK GUYS, a lot of you have posted many suggestions, BUT what worked for me was pretty simple actualy. I used Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel and in the HKLM/Run tab I found THIS FILE C:\WINDOWS\System32\win32.exe registered. It's the file that caused the 11001 and 10049 errors every time my puter started. *VERY ANNOYING* but I used the same utility to simply delete the entry, rebooted, no error happened, then I just deleted the win32.exe file myself. It had some devious POKEMON icon to it. Give this simple solution a try first before you go crazy. I also installed Startup Monitor (same author) just in case some other stupid trojan tries to register itself behind my back. GOOD LUCK!! it worked for me. Mike Lin rox0rz!! ^_^

I used Housecall and found the virii in my _restore/archive files. When I try to delete the offending files, I am told that access is denied, file may be in use. I cannot remember how to delete files in DOS mode in Win Me.

Please help.

Windows socket error : (10050), on API "connect"

Windows socket error : (11001), on API 'ASYNC lookup'

Ive run Mcafee virus scan and it has found some virus from a kazaa file. I downloaded a file for called GTA3 crack off kazaa last night and this morning to my delight had the error message.

Ive tried some of the above methods but in most cases the files mentioned to delete arn not present on my system. I am keen to get rid of this problem, but dont want to delete anything that is then goin cause more trouble. If anyone knows files that can be safly deleted from windows with out upsetting another program, please let me know. Thanks

a solution, well to my problem. I simple ran McAfee virus scan, ta retail version not a cheap downloaded copy, and it found about 4 virus on my computer associated with the kazaa file. After it had deleted the 4th one the problem went away.

Hope it stays tat way!
