My friend just called me about a problem I have no idea how to solve:

He turns on his computer and gets an error. "Windows Protection Error, press any key" or something like that. All we know is that it wasnt very informative. It just tells him to reboot...so when he presses a key, it reboots and gives the same error. HOWEVER, he can get into safe mode...but we don't really know what to do while he's in there...any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Have him boot to Dos standalone and type:

scanreg /restore

Restore to a date before the problem. He will lose any installs he did since then and have to reinstall them.
