Windows Protection Error

Hi, I just reinstalled Win98 SE (after about an hour of the thing not wanting to load properly) and now when it goes to boat up, it gives me the 'Windows Protection Error. Reboot computer' message. I do so, and then try to boot up in Safe Mode, but the screen just goes blank and the computer does nothing. I was wondering if anybody else had this problem, and what solution there was, if any. I'm suspecting that my Windows disc is screwed and that I'll need to get a new one.

I suggest checking out the hardware. Boot from a floppy and type scandisk c: /surface This will do a thorough check of your hard drive. It will probably take hours.
