Windows Protection error

After a brief Windows 95 screen I am returned to a black screen with the words:
"While initializing device CM:
Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer."

This is on a Compaq, Deskpro XE 560 system with 24mb RAM. After rebooting I can only get safe mode or the DOS prompt. Help!

George, Win protection errors occur when your computer attempts to load a Virtual Device Driver and has problems doing so. Refer to the following website for a few hints on resolving this issue:
