Subject: Windows Protection Error. after rOS: 98SECPU/Ram: Athlon 800, 256Ram |
Comment: "Windows Protection Error. You need to re-start your computer." Have reformatted hard drive and reloaded most programmes. After a re-boot I now keep getting above message and it will only go to safe mode. Have run defrag in safe mode with no problem. Ran Scandisk but it re-started 10 times. In msconfig only systray and scan reg are ticked. Ctrl,Alt, Del to close programme box shows only explorer. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Reply: (edit)boot to safemode, put in your windows 98 disc, run it, reinstall 98. Your files will not be lost in this way. There are 10 types of people in the world, those who know binary, and those who don't.

Reply: (edit)You can boot from a win98 startup floppy (with cdrom support). The run 'setup' from the CD. Type: e:\setup If you have one hard drive the cdrom drive will be E:. If you have more hard drives, it will be a higher letter. Check the screen during the boot to be sure. The problem might have been caused by one of the programs you installed after the Win98 install.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for responses. It turns out it was the Nvidia drivers that were causing the problem. Once they were removed and the originals installed...all is running fine.
