OS: Win98SE
CPU/Ram: 1 GHZ/256DDR

I would install 98SE and then i wiould install the drivers for all my hardware then i would have to reboot and then after it would load windows it would say While initialinzing: Windows protection error then it tell me to boot in safe mode, WHY? I dont' know. I need to know if ther is a way to fix this problem if so plz tell me. Thx

You could start all over and make sure the system runs between each driver install. You might be able to isolate it down to a bad driver.

I had that problem once and I went into bios and disabled plug and play and then everything worked.

Dear Casey,

This may be nothing to do with your problem, but I thought I might mention it. I got a "Windows Protection Error" all the time after installing new software for a CD-RW (PlexWriter 40/12/40A). I had to revert the disk using "Second Chance" to even use my computer again.

After 3 days of aggravation (I didn't know about this forum site then), I finally discovered via Yahoo or Google that it was to do with the "Aspi Layer" (Adaptec) file in Windows 98SE which needed updating.
