CPU/Ram: 1 GHZ/256DDR

Comment: I would install 98SE and then i wiould install the drivers for all my hardware then i would have to reboot and then after it would load windows it would say While initialinzing: Windows protection error then it tell me to boot in safe mode, WHY? I dont' know. I need to know if ther is a way to fix this problem if so plz tell me. Thx

Reply: (edit)You could start all over and make sure the system runs between each driver install. You might be able to isolate it down to a bad driver.

I got a "Windows Protection Error" all the time after installing new software for a CD-RW (PlexWriter 40/12/40A). I had to revert the disk using "Second Chance" to even use my computer again. After 3 days of aggravation (I didn't know about this forum site then), I finally discovered via Yahoo or Google that it was to do with the "Aspi Layer" (Adaptec) file in Windows 98SE which needed updating.
