Comment:

When I first got my PC it came with a 64 Ram chip. So I put a 128 in it and instantly it registered 192
I recently put more memory in my pc again.
First off, I put two 256 chips in. The motherboard manual says I can go up to 512 SDRAM, ( two slots at 256) but sometimes will only register 256 chips as 128 (so the manual says), which apparently it did that.
But for now I have accepted that.
The problem is that my DOS is reading 256, but windows is still saying 191. (right clicking on my computer and properties/performance). I went to pcpitstop.com and it said the same thing. Said something about windows ram not reading it right. Thats a new one on me (windows ram). It also said that DOS may not be reading it right, but if DOS is reading them as 128 chips and according to what the manual said, DOS is reading it correctly. (in a matter of speaking...still not reading as 256 Chips, but thats my next tackle) Also said something about my graphics card may be doing something to it, But that's not the case since I have an integrated Intel Chipset.(with updated driver)
How do I get windows to recognize the right amount of ram, the same as DOS is reading?

Need help on this one, thanks.
Bill.

Maybe you bought a RAM with PC133Mhz speed... that will certainly not work if your mother board supports only RAM's with PC100Mhz speed... also make sure you inserted the ram into its slot correctly...

And (just to be technical) its not DOS that is reporting your ram, its BIOS.

hello

You have video on board that get shared memory. In bios you have setup to get 64 Mb RAM.

256-64=192 around

If you need more ram change amount of ram taken from videoram in BIOS.
