Windows just boots into a command p

CPU/Ram: 266/64MB

I previously tried to boot into DOS mode and Windows froze so I just shutdown the system now everytime I boot it just boots into a command prompt with C:\WINDOWS> and if I try something like a reboot or win.com /wx it just returns to the command prompt. I can only get into Safe Mode. I don't have a Windows 98 disk to restore it either. Any fixes?

Hi

Adam -- try this roundabout method.

go to root.

attrib -s -h -r msdos.sys

edit msdos.sys

then below [options] entry add this line

bootmenu=1

save it and reboot.


You could try the F8 key during boot, but this way you'll get a menu selection each time.

When you get the dos prompt try typing in;

scanreg/fix

If that doesn't fix it, try again with;

scanreg/restore

You'll be presented with up to five dates. Pick a date that was before the problem started. (You only need to do this operation once.)
