Windows Installer can be downloaded from this location. Sounds like you are trying to open a .exe file with Office?

A similar thing happended to me. Had Office 2000 installed. Everything OK. Installed Powerpoint. All Office apps Icons were pointing at Setup.

Try right clicking on the Word icon in Windows explorer. Select properties. See what the icon's pointing at. If it's not Winword.exe, delete it and create a new shortcut to Winword.exe
