Ok, I haven't been able to access Windows 98 Help. Here is the error message I get:

"Cannot find the file hh.exe (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available."

I did nothing out of the ordinary, I swear Help just stopped working!! Can someone please help me, and maybe explain why this happen????

Aha, it's hard to explain why many things happen with Windows!

Have you been to your Start Menu / Find /
Files or Folders to see if hh.exe is still there?

Have done a little more delving. hh.exe is in fact an HTML help file which is updated when you install a later version of Internet Explorer. Bear in mind that IE and Windows are very much interlinked.

Whilst you could get a copy of this file from your W98 CD (SFC in Run box) I think this would be very risky unless you are still running the original IE5 that came on the W98 CD.

My suggestion is that you should run the IE repair option if available. Go to Control Panel/Add-Remove and look for the Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 entry. Double click this and see if Repair is one of the options listed. If so, go for it.

Otherwise it's a case of downloading IE again (maybe a later version).

One last thing, if you find hh.exe on your system (in c:\windows), right click it and note the version number. I could send you one but only have copies for IE501+SP2 and IE55+SP2. In any event you may prefer not to receive an .exe file from a stranger in case I am sending you a virus. I'm not, but of-course you have no way of telling.....

The dreaded IE. I have had problems with installing the new version, and have repaired it repeatedly. I finally got IE working with no error messages, but now Help doesn't work, and I've searched for the hh.exe file but it's not on my hard drive. Thanx Derek, but your reasoning for virus protection scared me off. Instead I downloaded the Hhupd.exe from microsoft's website like gregg suggested and now Help is working again!!! Thank you so much for all of your help!!!!

Great stuff Samantha.

Now I'll be honest, I had some doubts about whether greggs solution would help you. Sometimes it's nice to be proved wrong eh!

Well done both of you.

Err...honest, I'm not a virus sender but it is both reasonable & proper that you took that decision - I won't sulk.
