I have a problem with "Trouble Shooting" in Windows Help. When I open Windows 98 Trouble
Shooters on my computer and choose an item
from the dropdown list, say I choose DirectX
as having a problem, the right hand window
then displays "Windows 98 DirectX Trouble
Shooter-- What problems are you having". I then for example select one of approx: a dozen suggested problems suppose I select
"The sound is choppy" and press "Next" instead of displaying info: on what the cause of my DirectX Problem is,all I get is a blank page. All help with this problem
appreciated. DA.

Go to "start" and then "run" type in "dxdiag"
and follow the instructions.

Thank you Ken for your response,I did as suggested and used the DirectX Diagnostic Tool and followed instructions, but whenI came to the step where required and pressed the Windows Troubleshoot button a blank page came up as described in my orig: post. Refering to that post I used DirectX as an
example, the blank page problem is common to
all 16 items in the Windows Help Trouble Shooting list i.e. Networking,Modem,Startup
and Shutdown ect, and not just DirectX. Thanks again I hope the additional info: will
help point to the source of the problem.
Looking forward to suggestions and advice from all Forum users.DA.

You can usually repair the problem by doing an "over-the-top" installation of Windows. It will extract the proper .HLP and .CHM files needed and put them in the correct places. My suspicion is that some of these files got deleted accidentally.

Hi Don,
I think you are right about files missing
and an "over the Top" windows installation
may fix the problem. As I dont use Trouble
Shooting in Windows Help that often I am
prepared to live with the problem for a while
and leave the "over the top" installation for
a more serious Windows problem.
Thank you for your time and interest. DA
