Windows Freezing In Stand-by Mode

Does anybody know why a computer would freeze up when the compuetr goes into standby mode? Win 98 SE....... Once the HD shuts down it takes rebooting the system to get it out of stand-by mode......

This is a known bug in windows and I haven't found anybody with a fix yet (except not to use Stand by and Hibernate). wcr3d

I had a customer with that very problem....it ended up being an IRQ conflict between the network card and the video driver. Whenever it tried to come out of sleep mode, it would lock up tight. Once we assigned the NIC a different IRQ, it worked fine. (I think we also made some minor adjustments in the Power Management applet in Control Panel, too.)
I dunno if this will help in your case, but it's a relatively easy fix, it that is the problem.

This is a well known problem though why Buster thinks it's confined to Comcrap I don't know. Certainly it seems more common in PC's with networking components installed. My Laptop for instance has both a PCMCIA ISDN card and an Ethernet card and will invariably hang after a suspend with either card plugged in but is OK without them. It is also unhappy when I have a PS2 mouse plugged in.
