For some strange reason when I Start windows, the screen goes completely blank after the boot screen. When I hit ctrl+alt+delete, I'm redirected into safe mode. Everything seems fine but when I reboot again into normal mode, it does the same thing and goes completely blank. I keep repeating this procedure, and about 1 out of every 50 times, it manages to load problem free (which is how i'm online right now), but always ends up freezing after I leave the computer idle for more than 10 minutes. Then I have to restart and repeat the entire process. What the hell is wrong? I can't figure it out.

This seems like a serious problem, back up your data (just in case...) and reinstall Windows. U'll get everything as it was, but taking back up is important 'coz u never know what can go wrong!!! To reinstall Windows:
1) Get (or make) a DOS boot floppy.
2) Boot the computer from the boot disk.
3) Insert Windows CD-ROM and
4) Run setup.exe from the CD.
5) Follow the on-screen instructions, install the new files in the same old Windows folder, which is usually, C:\Windows

From the Startup Options menu you could try a step-by-step confirmation start. Each time it asks to load an item press the Y key until it freezes. Take note of the last item it tried to load and restart. Go through the steps again, and when it gets to the item you noted, press the N key. Then see if you can load the remaining items and boot to the desktop.

Well, I reinstalled windows, and it solved the problem. Everything boots fine now, however performance is rather slow, mainly with Quicktime for some reason. All of my .mov files play very very choppy. I ran a virus scan and nothing can be found. I don't know what is causing this sluggishness. At least I've solved my initial problem and my computer can function.

Unfortunately I spoke too soon. Reinstalling Windows apparently didn't fix the problem, it just makes it less frequent. It worked for about 4 boots and now it's freezing up again. So now everything is choppy and sluggish AND it STILL freezes. Any other suggestions?

boot into safe mode, in the control panel/system/device manager, remove all your graphic cards drivers, reboot for windows to reinstall--is the first thing you should have/should do.
Reinstalling windows without a complete hd format will not solve most os issues problems. Indeed, if you do a clean format and still have this problem it will be a hardware problem, most likely overheating or graphics card.

I tried reinstalling the drivers, and i've had no luck. I'm not ready to reformat yet cause i've been reformatting constantly, cause i've been having several problems (mainly with dirvers, but i finally have the correct ones). I even took apart my tower, and cleaned all the dust out of everything to prevent overheating. Fearing i may need a new graphics card has been a fear of mine for quite some time. Maybe it's coming true. For some reason the way to get my comp running when it freezes is to reboot, let it reload and let it freeze..as it does everytime. I hit the reset button, let it boot into safe mode and shut it down and wait for two minutes. I restart, and it loads fine. I don't know why this pattern works but it does. I'll just stick with it till i can afford a new graphics card, or find out what's going on. It's a fishy problem and i'm no computer genius, which is why i'm on this site asking stupid questions.
