The following TMP Wordpad files show up in
Win:Explorer:-
ffff1d{FF634F01-57AF-11d6-9245-A5BD94C4C150}
there are approx: 300 files of variant number
and letter combinations similar to those shown shown above all refer to Word Pad.
My Question:- How to get all these files back
to where they should be.
Thanks DA.

Hi DA.

Tmp files can usually be deleted. To be on the safe side, make a folder called WordTemp.

Then drag your WordPad tmp files into it.

After 2 or 3 weeks, if you notice no complaints from WordPad, you can delete the WordPad Temp folder. Deleting these files will make more room on your hard drive.

Also - check this link. Even though it is for Office 2000 the same may apply to WordPad which would explain why you are getting so many tmp files.

Now this is very interesting and has been slipping by me for quite some time now (no great surprise there though)

I see ( in the MS Articles) about removing the Mdm.exe from the registry and disabling script debugging in IE, I will go thru those later.
The MS article doesn't mention if there is any problem in deleting 3-4 hundred of these (fff) Temp files prior to shutting these starters off? I guess there shouldn't be. Anyone had any bad experiences with this?

Well they can sit in the can for a while to make sure.
Very interesting, the things I run into cruising thru here. Thanks again!

Hi XLWH,
Thank you for your response,as there are some
300 files in question I am a little nervious
about deleting them at this stage until I can
find out more about the cause of the problem.

I checked out computing.net Unique #19348 to find the post was related to a sound problem.
I am probably looking in the wrong place. Thanks again for your time and interest

RE Response #2.
Hi Max,
Thank you for directing me to kb Q 221438 site, the symptons in the anwser are much the
same as I am having, correcting the problem
involves using the Registry Editor and I note
the Warning "use the Registry Editor at your own risk" in the WORKAROUND. at present I do not feel confident enough to mess with the
Registry,however,I have printed the article
and will study it before I decide to make a move or not.
I was wondering what would happen if I left
the files in Windows Explorer would they create further problems or just be dormant,
your comments on this appreciated. DA

Hi Everybody,
I have returned to let you know the end result of the tmp.files problem has been
been a good one. The 300 files were removed
from Win/Explorer and are presently sitting
in the Recyle Bin which will be emptied in
7days time. This was achieved by following suggestions from Response #1. The files were
deleted in batches of 25 and sent to the Bin
so far there has not been any complications,
WordPad is O.K. nor have these sneaky files
been replacing themselves 2 at a time on Shut
Down as experienced by others. The decision
to try the easy method was after I read the
following Microsoft Knowledge Base Articles:-
kb221438,256986,256419,322754 and 221512,for
anyone who has similar ffff file problems or
is interested in Registry BackUp,Editing,
Restoring or description of the Registry and
its use, these Articles cover the lot.
Luckily I did not have to mess with Registry
this time but will be better prepared should
the occasion arise. Thank you all it is good
to be able to access the computing.net fountain of knowledge when problems occur.DA.
