When I start up my computer, I get an explorer error and I click close on the box and then nothing runs. I hit ctrl alt del and nothing is in the task box. I tried running in safe mode and I get the same thing. I tried using a boot disk and scanreg.exe, but nothing is working. I need into Windows! Can anyone help me?!

Use your start up disk and choose to start computer with CD ROM Support to get access to your drives. Do a search on the root of your C: drive and see if you have a file called Explorer.exe. If so, rename it Explorer.old. You now need to extract the explorer.exe file from your windows cd and put it into the windows folder on your hard disk. You can do this by typing ext at the command prompt and following the instructions on screen.

This article describes how to restore a backup copy of the Windows 98
or Windows Millennium Edition (Me) registry

scanreg /restore
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q221/5/12.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=scanreg/%20restore&rnk=3&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98

Follow the prompts and select a registry dated prior to the problems .
