I have recently started getting an error message when I start my PC up. It says there us a problem with Explorer and OLE32.DLL. I think it may be something to to with hijackthis. I amy have deleted a file by mistake. I could probably get a copy of the OLE32.DLL but as I cannot use explorer I cannot see my files, load or even open up in DOS. Any suggestions.

Did you make a Startup Disk in Control Panel/Add-Remove at some time (floppy)? If so you can use this to boot to DOS. If you haven't made one then go to www.bootdisk.com and find one for W98 with CD-ROM support. You make the floppy on the the machine you downloaded to.

When you've booted to DOS the command to get Ole32.dll back to it's rightful place is:

extract X:\win98\win98_38.cab ole32.dll /L c:\windows\system

Note that it has turned round on here. It is all on one line with one space after /L

Replace X with the letter for your CD drive, but be aware that it will temporarily change when you use the boot disk. Often it goes up by one letter or takes the letter R. Watch the screen when booting and it will tell you (it uses your normal letter for a RAM drive).

You will need your W98 CD in the drive.

I have the same Windows Explore error but in my laptop in which I cannot have connected at the same time the floppy disk and the CD-ROM device.
I built a Startup Windows98 disk and I put the in the driver of my CD-ROM but when I start the computer with this floppy thzen driver is loaded but I have evidently an error message saying that my CR-ROM device cannot be found.
Do you have any tip to overcome it?

You have picked up a post that is over a month old and any time now will become "read only". Very few helpers will still be watching this post.

Repost it by chosing W98 (top left of this page). That way you will get individual attention to your own specific problem - no two problems are quite alike.
