On Windows 98 on my computer, I cannot run it on anything greater that 16 colours. Until recently I could run 256 colour and true color without problems. Going to Settings, Control Panel, Display, Settings reveals only the options of 2 colour or 16 colour. What is happening? Do I have to reinstall windows? Is there a CD or something from which I can install true colour?

Somehow you have shifted back to the generic Windows svga display mode. Go to you video adapter in your display properties, and reinstall your video card and drivers.
