Is there any way to get the update from the ie setup files i have on cd or can someone tell me where to download update :)

Thanks in Advance

a five seconds search in google ends here:
http://www.idisoft.com/support/kb/1035.htm

which says:

Alternate Desktop Update Installation

You can install the Desktop Update using the following alternative method. This method requires you have access to the IE 5, 5.5, or 6 setup directory.

If you installed your current version of IE using the MS online installer, you need to re-download the setup files. Do this from the Microsoft Windows Update web site by starting the IE setup and selecting the Install Minimal, or Customize your Browser Options. On the next screen, click the Advanced button and select the Download Only option. This downloads files from the Microsoft site and saves them on your computer. It does not perform the installation. Files are normally saved in the Windows Update Setup Files directory on your computer.

Open a Command Window / DOS Prompt and change to the Windows Update Setup Files directory

If you are installing to Windows NT 4.0 from IE 5 or 5.5 run the following command:

IE5Setup.exe /C:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_NTx86 /I:Y"

If you are installing to Windows NT from IE 6 run the following command:

IE6Setup.exe /C:"ie6wzd /e:IE4Shell_NTx86 /I:Y"

If you are installing to Windows 95 from IE 5 or 5.5 run the following command:

IE5Setup.exe /C:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_95x86 /I:Y"

If you are installing to Windows 95 from IE 6 run the following command:

IE6Setup.exe /C:"ie6wzd /e:IE4Shell_95x86 /I:Y"

From Ding's method do:
ie5setup.exe /c:"ie5wzd /e:IE4Shell_WIN /I:Y"
as that particular article's info is somewhat distorted.

Ie4Shl95.cab (885k) unfortunately is often not downloaded or to be found amoung home rolled archives of ie install cabs. Just put it in the same folder with all the other cab files and ie5setup.exe and run it with the above switch. When setup runs it won't show anything out of the ordinary except during the actual install phase it will show 'extracting Windows Desktop Update' and 'installing Windows Desktop Update'. All you need to do is click 'Install Now' when you see it.

i tried doing what you said but it didn't work, then i tried installing the update manually and it worked... kinda :(

after it was installed, i had active desktop but i couldn't open the start menu and when i tried the shut down windows via ctrl+alt+del, explorer.exe caused an illegal operation and went back to the desktop. So i had to go through dos and restore my default files.

back to square one for me :(
