Hello. I have a windows 95 machine that has a problem with character map. I can open the program, but I can't select any of the characters. Also, when I close the program it always performs an illegal operation.
Tried replacing charmap.exe with one I know to work, and it does the same. I am convinced the problem is elsewhere in windows but I don't know what i'm looking for. It could be anything really as far as i'm concerned. Anyone out there have any ideas? I'm all out. Thanks.

Hi Zarkov
I would be lost without Character Map - I use it all the time !
Try a scandisk and defrag of your hard drive.
Then rename the existing file to charmap.bad, and then install a new copy of charmap.exe so that it gets put on a different spot on the hard drive.

I am encountering the same problem. Did you ever get this issue resolved? If yes, what did you do?
