i am running windows 98 on a Compaq Presario and when i click OK at the windows password box,i get a message that reads explorer has caused a page fault error. when i click cancel, the computer freezes and won't boot.it does the same thing in safe mode. does anybody have an idea how to fix this? help would be appreciated!!

Type scanreg /restore from dos prompt ( press cntrl at boot up and selct ms dos mode from the list or when you shut down select restart is ms dos mode). Then replace registry from one dated before the problem started. And unless it is absolutley necessary disable the windows logon from control panel.
