Hi, I need to re-install Win 98, but my boot disk freezes after I select "start with cd rom support. I presume it is not supporting my CD (A Panasonic 10x DVD). I can start in safe mode, or to A prompt, but can't get CD to work - so am stuck. If I format C surely I will still have the same problem. What now?
I have Win 98(2nd ed) on a 500 Athon PC with 128ram, Guillemot Maxi Gamer TNT2 Ultra 32mb.

Richard,

Did this DVD Rom come with a installation disk?

If so start without CD-Rom support and then install the driver to the autoexec.bat. When you restart, you should have support.

Let me know,

3 possible solutions for you:

1. c:\windows\bootdisk will make a standard win98 bootdisk which works with most cdroms.
2. add/remove progs in control panel , then windows set-up should make a boot disk based upon your existing driver.

3. and easiest providing you have a working-ish system, is to create a partition or folder or hawever you want to do it and copy the win98 folder from the cd to it. boot from floppy and run setup from that folder...and it is a quicker/easier install.
