This problem has been driving me mad for about a year. When I try to run Windows Media Player, or Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, or any other programme (presumably) that requires the Windows Audio Kernel Mixer, it takes about four or five minutes to load. Does anyone know why ? I have a Pentium 200 with 128Mb of SIMMs, and the usual peripherals such as CD writer, zip disk, Intel Create and Share camera and USB HP scanner. I have recently installed Direct X 7, but this problem has been going on for much longer than that. I have tried Usenet, and the Microsoft Knowledge base, but can only discover that the audio kernel mixer is part of Direct X, I think.

Thanks

Do you still have the problem with the Kernel Audiomixer? Because I'm experiencing the same problems that you described. After removing MediaPlayer and installing the new version, Windows keeps asking for the win98 cd rom, to install Kernel Audiomixer. No matter what I do, if I remove it or whatever, it keeps bugging me and keeps coming back. If you have solved this problem, please let me know, because I'm losing my mind by now! :-)
