Hi.
Im after the Windows 98 Setup floppy disk. Not the normal bootdisk but the floppy disk image that allows you to select the option to start windows 98 setup from the cd rom. Does anyone know of a location I can download this.

Thanks
Mike

I'm not sure what you mean by a 'normal' bootdisk, but you can download a file from www.bootdisk.com that will create a bootable floppy that can access the cdrom drive and start an install.

I have already been there but to no avail as that just gives me the normal bootdisk with options to start the computer with or without CD support. Im after the disk that starts windows setup automatically.

Thanks
Mike

... you mean a disk that automagically runs 'setup' from the CD for you? Hmmm, pretty hard to live without that command in autoexec.bat

You're welcome. It's basically a bootdisk that gives the same menu options as when booting from the 98 cd.

Derek, it was an OEM bootdisk I came across a while back. If you choose the option to begin the installation, autoexec runs a 'findcd.exe' command that accesses the 98 cd and then runs 'setup' from it.

So, what he was looking for, was a 98 Retail Setup Disk, Right Daveincaps. Maybe not
;-)

jboy,

have it look for the oemsetup, right. hmm, even the config would need a little tweaking, for the menu ect. ect.

The 'findcd' on jboy's link is a different file but I imagine it does the same thing.

It was from an OEM bootdisk I got somewhere. It had a regular 98 bootdisk label so I don't think it was a homebuilt disk. I didn't think much about it except it seemed like a convenient addition to a regular bootdisk.

I have one here that says " Microsoft Boot Disk Windows 98 series" Elsewhere the disk Says Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition For Distribution Only with a New PC. It has the options on it that the poster was looking for.

I have one of these bootdisks as well. It's "OFFICIAL" M$ for 98SE. Defaults to "Start Windows 98 Setup from CD-ROM" in 30 seconds. All it really does is save you a key press or two from the "standard" 98(SE) bootdisks.

It has and uses findcd.exe. ALL files on the floppy have the Date/time stamp as 4/26/99 12:20 PM. Different authors for this file? jboy's link is findcd.com.

Forgot to mention, the bootdisk I have does not load a ramdrive. No provision/files for it on the disk.

Yeah, that sounds like the one I have. It does contain ebd.cab but no ramdrive.sys. That was another thing I liked about it--no ramdrive to confuse tenderfoots.

I'm looking for the same thing. Trying to setup a disk to make it as easy as possible for my boss to re-install his home computer. I need the floppy that boots up with the option to Install 98. If someone could provide a link to download the floppy image or send it to me via e-mail, I'd be greatful.

Thanks,
Mike

i got a computer from my work for free, but the computer had been fdisked prior. I know it used to have windows 98 on it, but i have no register key for windows, nor any recov. cds... so i was wondering if this setup cd would help me reinstall windows in any way. if not any advice would be appreciated.

What is being discussed herein is a boot floppy, not an install cd.

You'll have to obtain some O/S to install onto the system in question.
