windows 98se boot.

I restarted my computer and it won't boot windows 98se when i checked the dir's it say's that the partition is empty but gives me the right amount of free space that is there. i tried using a boot disk and cd. whats the problem?

need more info than that. if you don't have an operating system on it then it can't boot to it ,can it? do you have a boot disk that detects the cdrom? did you install the operating system? give us something to work with.

It has windows 98se installed but after i restarted it said there is an invalid system disk i tried to use the boot disk to start with cd rom support and it said the same thing. its set to boot from floppy then cd-rom then hard disk.

Boot from a Boot Disk and enter the following: SYS C: (boot again)
If you still can't get it to start try: FDISK /MRB (from the boot disk)

FDISK /MBR recreates the Master Boot Record (without repartitioning your hard drive).
If you can't boot after trying all the above - your drive is toast.

re: Response number 2. If I understand you right, the boot sequence you have is Floppy, CDROM, Hard disk. You cannot boot from the WIN98 SE CDROM disk as it doesn't have a boot block. You have to use an "Emergency Boot Disk" to get into DOS mode then you can see what files you have on the hard disk. Remember though, the system files are "hidden" from most file display programs.
