Windows 98, Spool32 Error

Fighting this problem for a week. Machine runs on a 3 machine LAN running NetBEUI and uses a 2nd NIC running TCP/IP to a cable modem. Problem: can't reach my Start/Settings/Printers window because I get a "Spool32 caused an invalid page fault in module wnpp32.dll" error every time. What I know so far: 1) Reinstalling Windows 98 does not fix. 2) Error disappears in "new" profile, if I create one. 3) Error disappears if I do a step-by-step load at startup and I elect to not load vnetsup.vxd. 4) Making Control Panel/Network settings identical in the problem profile to the "new" profile settings does not correct error. 5) Even with the problem and new profile Network settings identical, the network sections of the Registry in these two profiles remains different. Any ideas? Where is there a description of these files and the Registry settings for them? I can find nothing in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
