Windows 98 setup
Name: Bart Date: October 30, 2002 at 07:48:02 Pacific OS: DOS CPU/Ram: 32 Mb
Comment:
I want to install win 98 on my computer, it has a 20 Gb harddrive, 32 Mb ram (I am not sure about that, it also could be 64 Mb or 128 Mb) and it is a P 1 122 Mhz. But after I entered my windows serial number, the setup asks the win 98 cd, when the cd is in the cd rom drive, it can't detect it, can anybody help me how I can install win 98 and I can get my cd rom back. My last OS was Windows 95, I formatted the drive before I installed 98 because there was a virus on the computer. Thanx

2 things - 1. Are you using a win98 boot floppy to noot the PC to start the install? And if so, are you choosing the 'with CD support' option? - because you need CD drivers loaded to have access to CD Rom in Dos mode.
2. Win98 install CD is bootable - if you change settings in bios to boot from CD, you can just install from there.

Hope it's not too late.
DO NOT do as suggested by #3.
This will copy all your Windows CD files and folders into the C: root directory (amongst all the others residing there) which is insanity.
You need to copy them into a specific folder.
Use post by mesich!!!!

Gene, No hard feelings but copying the CD to the hard drive using the commands given in response #3 will do just as Derek stated, placing all of the files on the root directory.
Derek, Thanks for the response I missed that. Hope you continue to "watch my back"!!
Thanks again.
Good Day All! Mesich

No trouble, just watch mine (I often dive off into one of "my lectures" having missed the bit where a poster said he/she had already done that).
