windows 98 running slowly

I have installed a copy of windows 98 first edition on my laptop but windows is running ridiculously slowly. I haven't installed any software or drivers yet so it cant be a virus or spyware. I have windows XP installed on another partition and it runs fine. I have an AMD sempron mobile 2800 with 512mb ram. Appreciate the help

maybe its just that windows 98 isnt really optimized for your processer. i installed windows 98 on a friends AMD Athlon 2000+ an it ran really bad. stuff kept crashin and all that. it might just be something like that. you never know. well anyway, i hope you get somewhere with it. good luck!

Is that board compatible with first edition? How did you get drivers for that?

Remember, often Win 98, 98SE run slowly only because of cookies harassment, with this OS it is good to use AdAware SE to clean your regitry....
