Dear Forum, I need a small favor.

I wanted to find a DOS program to kill a running program and when I Googled,

I came up with this:

http://forums.techguy.org/dos-pda-o...

"Windows 98 Resource Kit can help: TLIST and KILL." and goes on to give details.

Well, the Windows 98 Resource Kit is just that, a Windows 98 item. For the life of

me I can't find my old Windows 98 CD and the Windows 98SE Resource Kit doesn't have

ANY of the goodies MS says are included in the 98 CD: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247024

Soooooooooooo, what I need from y'all is to dump all of your Windows 98 CD's "ResKit"

folder into a Zip file and upload it to good old Rapidshare: http://www.rapidshare.com/

and post (OR PM me) the download link.

Can anybody help me out?

I think your confusing the "Windows 98 Resource Kit Sampler", which came with the Windows 98 and 98SE installation CD-ROMs, and the actual "Windows 98 Resource Kit", which was a product offering from Microsoft. The "Sampler" on the CDs were just to show the nifty kinds of tools you would get if you ordered the whole "Resource Kit" from Microsoft. Just like the games and Plus! samplers on those CDs. The link you provided details the tools which come with the actual "Resource Kit", not what was part of the "sampler" on the Windows 98 CD-ROM. I wish you luck with getting someone to upload a copy of the actual kit, but it will be an illegal distribution of licensed software. Note: not that I care, I don't really believe it would represent any real infringement on Microsoft's revenues. They no longer even sell the resource kit themselves. But, they've never released it for free distribution either.

It's in the tools folder on the 98 cd and not the sampler so maybe it's the whole thing. It's a 13 meg zip file. I uploaded it here:

I uploaded on dialup and it finished faster than it should have so it may be corrupted. But you can give it a try.

Get it yourself in this folder:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/services/technet/samples/ps/Win98/Reskit/DIAGNOSE/

I think that should be the end of any more legalities treatises. But on the other hand this forum is surprisingly rigidly strict on the subject so I can't fault anybody.

I went with ebay a few years ago for some eight bucks if I remember correctly and Amazon has both the book and the CD for a penny plus $3.99 shipping if you can possibly accept like new but used condition. Be sure the one you pick doesn't state that the CD is not included as some have lost their CDs.

Do you still need the ResKit? It should be on any MSWin98SE CD, probably not on an OEM or Win98FE.

I have the file if you need it. 98Se is an Upgrade so AFAIC if you have a legal copy of FE there should be no legal issues.

Size is 38.5mb

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

Dumbob, what you have is the Resource Kit Sampler included on 98se CDs for free. It is just a sampler and does NOT contain the desired executables so what good does sending the 35 megs do again?

Another file that the sampler doesn't have is Winalign.exe (41kb) which is why I got the real Resource Kit CD and now I have both the sampler and the real McCoy. It's real easy to tell the difference as the real deal comes with a 5 pound book that tells you how use the files on the CD.
