Hi,

Firstly, whenever I turn on my computer the Cd drive keeps reading and i get a beep sound that lasts for a few seconds, stops then starts again. The only way I can get into windows is by pressing the reset button loads of times.

Also, when I finally get into windows 98, it occasionally says "Failed to access registry. Windows will now restart and fix the registry" it does this nearly all the time though.

I have had previous problems with the registry which i fixed using Regrepair 2000.

Can anyone help or shed some light on the matter?

Thanks
Richard White

P.S

My computer was working fine until I recently move frome the UK to Ireland.

It worked fine for quite a few weeks. Then however i got the boot problems - i only had to reset maybe twice - this got worse and i had to reset about 7 times. And i also started getting the Registry problems.

Might also consider backing up your data and reformat and reinstall Windows

"OldWinBootDir"="C:\\WINBOOT

What is this, could this be the problem, and how do i fix it, what's WINBOOT?

Software ram tester available here:

http://www.simmtester.com/

Read the Adobe help file.

If you have more than one stick, the best test is to swap one out at a time. Ground your hands against the case before handling.

You can also run msconfig and click on advanced to use the option to limit the amount of memory Windows uses. Don't go down less than 24mb. If no errors, you know for sure it is Ram. (And it almost certainly is!)
