I was looking at some other posts and I tried the E:\TOOLS\SYSREC\PCRESTOR thing. I tried it and it didn't work. Does it actually work? If it dosn't, is there any other way to recover my computer without the recovery disk, because my computer didn't come with one. My computer just said " bad command or file name" when I entered E;\TOOLS\SYSREC\PCRESTOR.

Not to be picky but above you have a ; where you should have a :

assuming your win98 cd drive is in the cd drive e:, you should type

e: (enter)
cd tools (enter)
cd sysrec (enter)
pcrestor (enter)

that way you can make sure you are going to where you need to within the cd folders. Usually the cd drive is d:

This is referring to a file on the W98 install CD - your CD drive is probably drive D, in which case you need "D:\TOOLS... etc" with the CD inserted.

I believe that can only be used when you have previously done a 'backup' of the system.

Looking at pcrestor.bat I see the following:

"Make sure you have your full system backup handy."

Sorry, posted to early..(tired)..

With the orginal cd, you can just run the setup.exe from within windows to restore your basic windows settings. Recovery disks usually com on the side, like with a Gateway computer, and aren't really neccessary, unless there is something on them you like.

Thanks guys for the advice. I'll try to recover my computer from inside windows. But since I have 2 hard drives, it'll be easy to backup my other drive.

Sorry, I forgot... How exactly do you run recovery from inside Windows? Because I need to return to the basic settings from when I got my computer.
