Hi there!
I have a Toshiba Libretto 70CT but because the current Win98SE is so unstable, i want to format and reinstall Windows.
The only problem is, that I have a floppy drive and a cd-rom with a PCMCIA card connection and only one PCMCIA slot.
So here's my thought on reinstalling.

Format with win98 boot disk, install win95 from the floppy's I got with it and upgrade to Windows 98SE with my cd, once Win95 is installed.

So, what do you think? Any thoughts are welcome here! :D
Is this the best way to reinstall win98?
Oh, and will my Win98SE cd be able to upgrade or do i need a special upgrade disk to do so?

If your win98 disk came with a new computer it is an OEM version for new installations only and you won't be able to upgrade with it. Do you know anyone with a CD burner? I have never had the need to do this but you should be able to put the files from your floppy on a disk and you won't need to switch over drives.

A. BEFORE installing Windows 98 / Windows 98 SE on your Toshiba Libretto 70CT, you need to do the following if you have not already done them:

1.Update BIOS
2.Update Toshiba Internal Modem Driver
3.UninstallToshiba Infrared Driver (if installed)
4.Uninstall Toshiba Windows Utilities/Control

B. Check the BIOS Setup for CD-ROM Drive boot option.

You can access the BIOS settings on ALL Toshiba Liberto Models by any of the 3 methods.

1. From the Windows Control Panel, launch the Toshiba HWSetup program. HWSetup provides a user-friendly graphical frontend for modifying BIOS settings. Please note that if you change some settings, you may be required to restart your computer. HWSetup comes preinstalled on your Toshiba portable PC, or it can be downloaded as part of the Toshiba Utilities package for your model.

2. Press the [Esc] key while the system processes its Power On Self Test (POST). In order to use this method, the computer must be "off", meaning NOT in sleep/suspend or hibernate mode. Press the power button, then immediately press the [Esc] key (it doesn't hurt to hold the key down). When the POST finishes, you'll be prompted to press the F1 key to enter BIOS setup. Press the [F1] key to access the BIOS setup program.

3.From MS-DOS, run the TSETUP program. TSETUP must be run under real mode DOS[can use Win98 Boot Disk but not a Windows-based MS-DOS prompt] with no memory manager (like HIMEM.SYS, QEMM386, or equivalent) installed. TSETUP was provided originally with your computer, or you can download it from Toshiba Website

1. Check whether you can make CD-ROM drive as First Boot Device ahead of HDD.

2. If the above is possible, then you can use Win98SE boot disk to Reformat the HDD.

3. After Reformat enter BIOS Setup, alter the Boot Sequence making the CD-ROM drive as #1 Boot Device and then Save the changes and Exit the BIOS Setup

4. Remove the Win98 Startup Disk from the floppy drive and Reboot

5. Install the CD-ROM drive after removing the FDD from the slot.

6.Place the Win98 SE CD in the CD-ROM drive and then Restart the PC.

7. Run the Setup to install Win98SE

If you cannot alter the Boot sequence to CD-ROM drive in the BIOS setup you can use the Win95 Floppies to install Win95 but will need Win98SE upgrade CD to install in the usual easier way.

C. AFTER installing Windows 98 / Windows 98SE: you may need to do the following:

1.Update Display Driver (if applicable)
2.Update Sound Driver (if applicable)
3.Install Toshiba Win98 Infrared Driver
4.Install Toshiba Windows 98 Utilities
5.Upgrade Power Save Driver
