Comment:

I upgraded from Windows 3.11 to Windows 98 Error message "Unable to load msnp32.dll" I checked, and msnp32.dll *is* in my Windows/System directory. System will boot to blue background with the error message box; upon hitting , system will continue to boot correctly to desktop, and everything works fine thereafer; just that this error message stops the boot sequence in the middle, until is hit to continue the process. Since msnp32.dll is in the Windows/system directory, is there a line I need to add to win.ini to stop thsi error box?

Just check that your windows/system directory is in the path specified in your autoexec file. ie. path=c:\windows\system

If it is, try reinstalling the file....do a websearch for it and you'll probably be able to find it.

Try the command: regsvr32 msnp32.dll from start>run

Or try removing and reinstalling Client for Microsoft Networks (control panel>network applet)

In reference to 12/12/00 14:53 re Windows 98: msnp32.dll Unable to load:

I've tried all the suggestions in Responses 1 & 2, but no success. Also used System File Checker, and it found no corrupt, or any files that needed restoring.

If you are not networking try removing Client for Microsoft Networks and leaving it removed. (Network Neighborhood should disappear from your desktop). Hopefully this will keep the file from being called.

Glad to hear it. This seems to be one of those issues on which the MS links do not always work for people, and usually one never hears back on what does...
