Greetings,

So I am currently working with this relativly old dell, that is fast for its age, but has several kinks I am unable to work out, any and all assistance is much appreciated. Here are the challenges I am having:

1. I have installed an ethernet card and hooked it up to my network and since I've gotten it working, I can load pages, but not all pages, for example, I can load google, but not my webmail page, and this happens for various pages on which I attempt to surf. I've tried installing firefox, but as soon as I open it, it tells me it cannot connect, which tells me that there is an issue with the way the computer is utilizing the internet connection, I have it on automatically detect settings and the lowest security level, however, as I said, it just wont load certain pages.... I get "Page Cannot Be displayed".....

so thats one problem, and I guess I should stick to that one for this post!

Any and all assistance with this challenge is much appreciated!

Thanks so Much and Have a Great Day!

Peace,

Teddy

Why are you not using the on-board NIC?

Is this an additional NIC? What make and type is it?
Have you installed its drivers? Are there any driver conflicts?

Are you connecting to the net using this NIC?

Have you checked control -> panel -> sysytem to see if there is anything unusual there (e.g. yellow exclamation marks or red crosses against any of the devices)?

The reason I installed a new NIC was because it did not orignally have one. I also made sure that it is indeed working properly.... no exclaimation points..... However, as I said, it loads some webpages, like google and I can perform searches and such, yet, it will not load others like webmail.earthlink.net and such. Please advise.

Thanks again,

Teddy

It could be the NIC. Try another NIC. They are not very expensive.

I am almost positive its not the hardware, I feel like it has to do with how the computer is recognizing and utilizing the hardware.... The reason being is when I use dialup.... the same problem occurs.....

I cannot think of anything else other than the NIC being either faulty or not being configured correctly.
