Reply: (edit)Hi Zoe. Ask around what the opinion is on IE6, Then I think you will stick with 5.5 IE6 causes to many faults for my likeing. Anyway Zoe ask around, and dont be in to much of a hurry to jump into the frypan. Have a nice day.

Reply: (edit)actually i would have to disagree with that. i believe IE6 (provided its not installed on windows ME) is a VERY good browser. i have been running it for over a year successfully on windows XP and windows 98 SE. and now IE6 SP1. i have never had a problem with them. Being a webmaster for a few sites it helps to keep up to date with programming languages. so IE6 helps. also when repairing peoples computers, especially windows 98 computers i find that computers with internet explorer 5.5 seem to crash due to JAVA problems. The solution to the problem was to update to IE6 and i havent heard any complaints from the owners of these computers. i am aware that IE6 contains many security flaws, but IE6 SP1 has covered most of them.

Reply: (edit)Hi Zoe, Yes you can. Go to Start\windows update, Micosoft windows update will search your computer first then put a list of recomended updates for you. It will not send any information on your computer to Microsoft. Just take your pick of the options, follow the instuctions Then download the updates, IE6 will be there and it will load over IE5 Edward (uk)

Reply: (edit)thanks for trying to help but u dont seem to understand my question. i am well aware of the basic processes. i have used pretty much every OS from DOS to XP. i am an advanced user. i like to hear the technical stuff :-P i am looking for an advanced technique like in a way slipstreaming windows 98 se with IE6 meaning that the installation medium does not contain IE5, and contains IE6 in its place. so when i put in the windows 98 cd i modified into my computer with no previous OS installed, it will install the IE6 files. so IE6 is integrated into the 98 setup...but how to do it, that is my question...??

Reply: (edit)Well zoe, from my basic knowledge of Windows 98 it is not possible to not install IE 5 when you install win98. Thatz what people have been complaining about for a long time, and why there is a trial for Micro$oft. Anyways, what you can do is to remove IE5 completely using 98lite, and then just download IE6 and install it. good luck!

Reply: (edit)Hi Zoe Sorry about my confusion. I thought you were new to computing, sorry no I cannot advice you on that, I just load windows 98Se with Windows\options\cabs\setup.exe with IE5 on. Or from my master cd-rom disks. Then put IE6 over it from C:Windows\Windows update files\ IE6setup.exe its just as broad as long to me. Edward (uk)

Reply: (edit)well...not really(in relation to the first question)...thats kinda like decompiling windows code and recompiling it...and although i am sure it can be done, it is illegal and probably ill advisable to try
