I was attemping to install win 98 on my computer when the install of windows starts I get a message that I do not have enough memory. This I would assume is low memory. Windows comes back with a message that I may have memory resident programs running. Thats impossible because I just formatted my hard drive so there is nothing running. Anyone knows what is happing because I can not install win 98 but I can install XP.

Edward,
I have a couple of ideas, but give me a little more info....
Two questions: (1) could you briefly explain the steps you took in formatting your HD. (2) When installing Windows, are you booting from a floppy, or the CDROM, if a floppy, is it a Windows boot disk or a DOS boot disk?

Are you stating in a header, that you have 1.5 GB of RAM. If so, Windows 98 won't accept more then 512 MB.

Follow Dave01's link; broni is somewhat incorrect, as Windows 98 will run with more than 512 Meg of RAM, but a tweak needs to be made to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI file. Good luck.
