I'm reposting this so that it is back at the top, so that maybe someone who knows how to fix this problem will see it.
When I view folders in Windows 98, it lists all of my files backwards. At the top of my list are files or programs at the end of the alphabet. It goes in reverse alphabetically order all the way down. Then, at the bottom of the list are all of my folders. They too, are sorted by reverse alphabetical order.
I've tried viewing the folder in detail mode and then clicking on the "name" field at the top to sort them by name, and that works.
It won't let me apply that to all of the folders in the folder options dialog box though, I must go through and click on "name" on each one to sort them in the correct order. If I choose "reset folders" in returns them to the reverse alphabetical listing!
Now, what's twice as annoying is that the folder views I set, do NOT show up when I try to save or open files. The dialog box that appears when I go to "save" or "open" lists the files in reverse alphabetical order, and no matter how many times I try to change it, it always reverts back.
I'm thinking there might be something that has been changed in the registry to make it do this?
Does anyone know anything about how to fix it?

Go to Explorer.
Right click in the right pane of Explorer.
Select View. Select how you would like to view the folder. Large icons ect....Select View at top.
Select Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.
Select View Like Current Folder.HTH

I quote myself:
"It won't let me apply that to all of the folders in the folder options dialog box though, I must go through and click on "name" on each one to sort them in the correct order."

Go to Start>Settings>Folder Options.
Select the View Tab.Ensure the Remember Each Folder View Setting is Selected.

Try this;
from MSKB article at:

"Right-click Start , click Explore , and then click drive C.
On the View menu, click Details .
Click the Name column to sort items by name, press and hold down the CTRL key, and then quit Windows Explorer by clicking Close in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Release the CTRL key.
Restart your computer.
NOTE : You must perform these steps exactly as they are listed. For example, do not quit Windows Explorer by clicking Exit on the File menu. "
